James Clayton Wilson
(June 23, 1932 - June 30, 2002)

It is with both profound joy and sadness that we at Pacific School of the Performing Arts dedicate this production of "It's in the Stars" to Mr. James Clayton Wilson. Without Jim's generous support and love, our school would not have been able to educate, train and inspire the many children of Hawaii that have attended our various classes and programs over the past five years.

As he put it, Jim strongly believed in education as a way to "Help people help themselves." He was an honorable man, who lived by his convictions, and who gave generously to numerous organizations that he believed would improve the world in which we live. It is fitting that we honor him this evening and we are proud to announce a manner in which we can honor him in the future.

Pacific School of the Performing Arts has established the James Clayton Wilson Scholarship Fund, which will enable at risk and underprivileged youth to attend classes at the school. In this manner, we can keep Jim's legacy alive in a way that he would have surely approved.

With a twinkle in his eye, Jim once said that after delivering an evening sermon for a church in Nashville, Tennessee, a gentleman came up to him and exclaimed, "Tonight you have reached up to the heavens and pulled down the stars!" Well, our dear friend Jim, tonight you are in the heavens smiling down on these young "stars" who are doing their best to shine for you.

Rod Fukino

It is with great sadness that I must share the news of the passing of Rodwic Fukino, our friend and colleague. Rod died last night at St. Francis Medical Center after a long struggle with cancer. As most of you are aware, Rod came on board for the SAE 97 program and stayed with us until Fall of 2001, when he had to give up teaching due to his health condition.

Rod gave much to the children in his classes and wrote wonderful songs from them to sing. He had high expectations for his students, and because of this, they often reached far beyond what would normally be expected of them. Pacific School of the Performing Arts has lost a wonderful teacher and a dear friend.

Those of you who knew him personally may wish to send a note of sympathy to his family. You may address the card to his mother, Mrs. Julia M.K. Fukino and mail it to:

Mrs. Julia M.K. Fukino
86291 Hoku'ukali Place
Waianae, HI 96792
Our school will also officially send our condolences to Mrs. Fukino and her family.
Thank you,
Ed
